What Lies Beneath

Some days we just need reminding that even though we might FEEL like a big fat loser, there are others out there who make us look AWESOME in comparison. That, my friends, it what I'm doing for you today.... helping you feel REALLY REALLY good about yourselves.

Today, I decided to remove my couch cushions since I hadn't done so in... oh... who even knows how long!? And this is what I found. Brace yourselves for the shock and revulsion.

Here is it all piled up together. Is that not the WORST thing you've ever seen in your life? Knock, knock, knock. Excuse me. That's a horde of vermin at my door.

Please note Jeb picking up something before I could stop him. Oh yeah. He ate it. Awesome. (I think it was a fruit snack. Possibly a skittle. There is the slight chance it was a raisin... that was a grape.)

No, the shame doesn't stop there. THIS is a picture of what was BEHIND my couch.

Excuse me while I go hide myself in disgrace. I. Am. Mortified. Now see.... Don't you suddenly feel awesome about yourself? You are welcome.

Cousins at the Bayou

Somehow it has become a tradition for my family to do impromptu family pictures the day before Thanksgiving. And I love it. This year, we went to Bayou Bluff. Pronounced "bio." Don't ask why. (If you're from Hector, you know exactly where to find Bayou Bluff. If you're not, I wouldn't even know where to begin.) It's a hidden treasure if you ask me. I had my senior pictures taken there, and Matt begged me (rather sarcastically) to replicate my poses. I told him I would, but it just wouldn't be the same without my denim shirt, denim jeans, no belt, white socks, and penny loafers. (Oh, and all the hair. Can't forget the hair.) Anyway, all the little cousins had a ball. I love seeing them playing together, making memories. So here are Belle, Estella Dru, Jeb, Maddisyn, and Gabe showing their stuff.... down at the bayou.

Squanto, by Estella Dru

For your viewing pleasure and in honor of Thanksgiving, I present to you the story of Squanto by Estella Dru (in her pajamas).

Oh, and if you are really interested in the story, you might want to check the history books. There may be a few discrepancies between what is written and what you just heard. Maybe.

Little Friend

This is another of those I'm probably the only one who cares posts. But, that's ok.

For the last two months, I have had a little 'friend' who sits with me just outside my window while I write. Every time I come in here and sit down at my computer, the first thing I do is check to see if she's here. And I know this sounds absolutely ridiculous, but writing can be a lonely thing sometimes, and having her here is nice. Her name is really original. May I introduce you to my little friend, Writing Bunny.

While I very much enjoy Writing Bunny's visits, she drives Faulkner absolutely crazy.

May be silly, (ok, I know it's silly), still, I hope she sticks around.

Finally a post

I have been neglecting my blog a bit lately. Things have been so busy around here, and I have been pouring my free time into some other places. And to be honest, nothing as of late seems to be blog material. Who wants to read a boring blog? Not me!

But today, my friend, Alicia, sent me a super cute picture of me, her, and Erin taken at the young couples' Barn Bash event at church last Friday night. It's too cute not to share. I love these girls. Hopefully the future will bring more blog-worthy events. Until then....

Can't wait for this one...

Few movies get my attention enough to actually make me anxious for their premiere. This one is an exception. I saw this trailer a few months ago and cannot wait until it comes out on November 20. I think this will be a good one.

Maggie

This may not be big news to anyone but me, but it IS my blog. And I deem this extremely blogworthy.

When Matt and I moved into this house a little over a year ago, I fell in love with the two big trees in my new front yard.

And then... the ice storm came. And one of my trees ended up looking like this.

And finally... like this.

Recently, we had the stump removal guy come out and take care of the rest. It was a final goodbye to my beloved tree. Sniff. Sniff. Then last week, on Halloween, Matt's dad told Matt to hook up the trailer and they would go get me a new tree. But not just any tree... my all-time favorite. A magnolia! I know. It's a tree, Angela. Get over it. Honestly, I have been wanting a magnolia tree in my front yard since forever.

Isn't she gorgeous? Her name is Maggie, and I am crazy about her. Thanks, G-Pops. I may seriously cry when she starts to bloom. Who knew a tree could make me so happy?

The White Cat, the Black Cat, the Rockstar, and Mummy Cookies

The Slaughter girls began Halloween 2009 by making mummy cookies. Check 'em out. They were fun and very yummy. Apparently, though, Estella had never heard of a 'mummy,' so I had to explain it to her. Her response, "I think I'll call them zombie cookies. I know what zombies are." Awesome.

After cookie making, we moved on to costumes!! Belle Slaughter has been asking to be a black cat for Halloween since she could speak, and this year, I finally gave in. (Of course, I gave her outfit my own special 'touch'.) Estella decided she wanted to be a white cat. Easy enough. And since Jeb couldn't care less, we made him a little rockstar, complete with mohawk, black fingernails, tattoo, and various piercings. Rock on.

Estella Dru as White Cat.

Black Cat Belle.

They said 'no' to face paint. I was only allowed to give them a pink nose.

With cousins, Lynlee (bumble bee) and Owen (honeycomb).

My kitties together.

White Cat's attempt to be fierce.

Rockstar Jeb was a moving target all night and DEFINITELY had the typical rockstar attitude. I had to post this one so you could see the tat and black nails.

LITERALLY a moving target.

Here's the rockin' dude on his way to his trick-or-treating gig in his leopard car seat.

My kitties trick or treating. They racked up.
